Itinerary

*Food budget $60 per day per person the price totals to $7200 (average restaurant costs roughly between 1,000 and 3,000 yen, about $9.82 to $29.45 but you can get a meal for you can have a full meal for between 500 ($4.91) and 1000 yen ($9.82). We plan to go about 4500 yen ($44.18) a day and gave ourselves a large buffer zone of 1638.60​ yen). The exact restaurants and prices are unknown due to website translation errors.

 

*All transportation other than flight and boat ride is paid for with the Japan Rail Pass.

Day 1 Tokyo 5/1/14:

  • Take American airlines flight 3283 to Chicago (departs 11:45 AM),take American Airlines flight from Chicago to Tokyo (departs 01:40 PM, arrives 04:45 PM)

  • Exchange Japan Rail Pass Exchange order for Japanese train pass on arrival in the Tokyo international airport

  • 5:25pm Take Airport Bus, Haneda Airport Line towards Toyosu Station

  • 5:35pm Eat near dinner Toyosu Station

  • Sightsee near Toyosu Station until around 7:00pm

  • 7:15pm catch業 10 at豊洲駅前（バス） (Toyosu Station (bus)) heading towardとうきょうスカイツリー駅前行Getting off at the 8th stop木場六丁目ギャザリア前（バス）

Day 2 Osaka 5/2/14

  • 10:35am walk to Tokyo station

  • 10:47am catch the JR Tokaido / Sanyo Shinkansen towards Shinosaka. Get off at the 5th stop, Shinosaka Station (1:20pm).

  • 1:21pm grab a quick lunch that can be eaten on the go if needed

  • 1:39pm catch the Midosuji Line towards Tennoji. Get off at the 9th stop, Dobutsuenmae Station

  • 1:59pm Walk to Hotel Chuo Osaka (just outside of the station, Hotel Chuo Osaka, 1-1-12 Taishi, Nishinari-ku, Osaka, Osaka Prefecture 557-0002, Japan TEL: +81 6-6647-7561)

  • 2:01pm check in to the Hotel Chuo Osaka (all five nights $660)

  • 2:20pm Borrow bikes (free at hotel) and ride to the Tennoji Zoo Look around Tennoji Zoo (1-108 Chausuyamacho, Tennoji Ward, Osaka, Osaka Prefecture 543-0063, Japan TEL: +81 6-6771-8401)($19.61)

  • 4:00pm ride bikes over to Osaka Municipal Museum of Fine Art (1-82 Chausuyamacho, Tennoji Ward, Osaka, Osaka Prefecture 543-0063, Japan TEL: +81 6-6771-4874). Explore it ($7.88)

  • 5:30pm ride bikes around looking for someplace that looks good to eat

  • 6:00pm Eat dinner

  • 6:45pm ride bikes around exploring the area, shopping or sightseeing when needed at some point during this time buy breakfast foods for the next five days (budget $200)

  • 9:00pm start heading back to Hotel Chuo Osaka

  • Stay night at the Hotel Chuo Osaka

 

Day 3 Osaka 5/3/14

  • Around 10:00am make/have breakfast (the hotel has a kitchen, free coffee and tea)

  • 10:32am catch the Midosuji Line towards Senrichuo. Ride it for 14 stops getting off at Momoyamadai Station.

  • 11:05am walk to千里中央（バス）

  • 11:17am ride the如意谷線８５系統 towards 千里中央行 getting off after 9 stops at山手公園前（バス）

  • 11:38am Walk to Meiji no Mori Minō Quasi-National Park (562-0001 大阪府箕面市箕面公園 TEL: +81 72-721-3014)

  • 12:00am Start exploring the national park

  • 12:30pm whenever hungry eat at the park

  • 3:00pm Head back towards the hotel exploring along the way, getting off the bus or train at a few stations and seeing what all is around (budget $10 per person $40 total)

  • 5:30pm arrive back near the hotel, and find a place to eat

  • 6:00pm Eat dinner

  • 7:00pm head back to the hotel and either relax or grab a bike and continue exploring the area (budget $10 per person $40 total

Day 4 Osaka 5/4/14

  • Around 9:30am Get up, make and have breakfast

  • 10:15am begin to ride bikes to Osaka castle (Osaka Castle, 1-1 Osakajo, Chuo Ward, Osaka, Osaka Prefecture 540-0002, Japan TEL: +81 6-6941-3044) stopping on the way to explore a little on the way (budget $10 per person $40 total)

  • 12:01pm have lunch near Osaka castle

  • 12:45pm go in and explore the Osaka castle museum ($23.63)

  • 2:30pm Explore the Osaka castle park

  • 5:30pm start riding back towards the hotel and eat at some point on the way

  • 6:37pm catch the Midosuji Line towards Senrichuo at Dobutsuenmae Station, ride for 6 stops and get off at Umeda Station.

  • 6:50pm walk to Walk to 大阪駅前（バス）

  • 7:00pm catch the５８号 towards 野田阪神前行 get off at the 4th stop大淀中三丁目（バス）

  • 7:12pm go up to the 40th floor and observe the panorama ($19.69)

Day 7 Kagoshima 5/7/14

  • 8:30am Get up have and make breakfast

  • Before 9:15am check out of the hotel Chuo Osaka and walk to the train station

  • 9:23am catch the Midosuji Line towards Senrichuo, ride to the 6th stop Umeda Station

  • 9:36am Walk to Osaka station

  • 9:45am catch the JR Tokaido / Sanyo Main Line towards Yasu and ride one stop to Shinosaka Station

  • 9:49am buy something to eat at Shinosaka Station

  • 9:59am catch the JR Tokaido / Sanyo Shinkansen towards Kagoshimachuo ride seven stops to JR Kyushu Shinkansen and continue on the same train another five stops to Kagoshimachuo Station. Eating when hungry.

  • 2:01pm Walk to Kagoshimachuo Ekimae Station

  • 2:14pm catch the鹿児島市電２系統 towards 鹿児島駅前行 ride to the third stop Takamibaba Station

  • 2:18pm explore the area round the hotel until 3:30pm 4:00pm walk to and check into Hotel Areaone Kagoshima (11-17 Nishisengokucho, Kagoshima, 892-0847, Japan TEL: +81 99-223-4111)

  • 4:33pm From Takamibaba Station take the鹿児島市電１系統 towards 鹿児島駅前行 continuing on to the fourth stop, Shiyakushomae Station

  • 6:15pm have dinner at nearby restaurant

  • 3:32pm check in at the hotel

  • 2:16pm catch the 市営９towards 西賀茂車庫前行, ride for 22 stops getting off at 下鳥田町（バス）.

  • 9:52am arrive at Nijō Castle and begin exploring ($13.74)

  • 3:08pm catch the Tozai Line towards Nishifunabashi at Otemachi Station. Ride it four stops to Kiba Station.

  • 12:00pm fide somewhere pretty to sit and eat at

  • 12:15pm explore the National park

  • 3:10pm start heading back to the bus station.

  • 5:44pm arrive at kiba station and start looking for somewhere to eat

  • 6:30pm continue to explore the area around the hotel (budget $200)

  • 4:05pm Go in and deal with security

  • 4:45pm buy any last souvenirs at the airport (budget $100)

  • 5:30pm buy some dinner and wait for the flight

  • 6:20pm board American airlines flight 60 to Dallas/Fort worth then continue onto flight 1264 to Dayton.
